ICBAN has appointed Leitrim County Councillor Paddy O'Rourke as Chairperson and Councillor Paul Robinson of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council as Vice-Chair at the recent AGM held in Enniskillen.

The new Chairperson, Councillor O'Rourke who has been a member of ICBAN since 2015, thanked the Management Board and in accepting his new position said, "It is an honour to take on the role of Chairperson of ICBAN. These are uncertain times and with Brexit pending, there is a greater need now than ever for cross-border cooperation. The recently published 'Bordering on Brexit' report by ICBAN and Queen's University Belfast should be commended for giving a voice to those who live and work in this border area and who will be most impacted by Brexit."

Outgoing Chairperson, Councillor Cáthal Mallaghan congratulated the new Chair and Vice-Chair and noted that significant progress had been made on a number of initiatives, including broadband/telecoms: "The lack of adequate broadband remains a concern for the Central Border Region and ICBAN has done and is doing excellent work to promote the overdue need for telecoms infrastructure in rural areas." Councillor Mallaghan said that recent projects had seen ICBAN look beyond the border and engage partners in European programmes that will help deliver on cross-border challenges. He added that this was important to advance the organisation's work in the Region.
